Meaford Museum
October 42014

The Meaford Museum was originally built in 1985 as the Town’s Pumping House. Later it was turned into the Public Utilities Offices and finally, in 1961 after a sizable donation of historical memorabilia was received by the town, the building was turned into the Meaford Museum. Since that time several renovations, additions and improvements have been made creating the new Meaford Museum as an interactive and exciting hub of local history. You will frequently find school or senior groups, individuals and families learning about the history of the former Town of Meaford and Townships of Sydenham and St.Vincent. The Meaford Museum is an important stop on the Apple Pie Trail, featuring information about the local apple growing history. Also for 2014, there is an exhibit about local inventor and hero Andrew Gawley, the Man with Iron Hands. Learn more about Meaford’s internationally renowned story of Beautiful Joe and the area which inspired John Muir to create the Sierra Club. Meaford has a robust and unique history that transcends its borders and delights all those who visit to learn about it. For more information and hours of operation visit our website.

Walk over the bridge spanning the Beaver River, on Highway #26 and have a look at the interesting fish ladder, which aids fish to return to their original spawning grounds up-river to start a new cycle of regeneration. In the Spring, watch for Rainbow Trout making their way up the Fishway. Adults enter the streams in early spring to spawn in clean, rapid water (April). From late August to late October, adult spawning Chinook Salmon provide exciting viewing as they migrate up stream and make their way up the Fishway to find suitable areas in gravel river beds. Meander along the trail to the beautiful Thornbury Harbour and take a moment to enjoy one of the loveliest harbours on the Bay.

Theatre Collingwood
July 112014

Live Professional Summer Theatre! Join Theatre Collingwood at The Historic Gayety Theatre for our exciting 2014 Summer Theatre Season. We begin the season May 27th-31st with Queen Milli of Galt; a fascinating, romantic comedy based on the true story about Milli, a native of Galt, Ontario, who believed she was the wife of Edward VIII (the Duke of Windsor)! From June 24th-28th we will present The Foursome, by Norm Foster. What happens when four old friends meet for a game of golf after their class reunion is a hysterical glimpse at the male mind on the golf course when the women aren’t around. Summer of Love will run from July 15th-19th and will have us reliving the music and emotion of the 1960’s. Packed full of great music from the singers and bands you loved, this music driven production has a narrative thread that describes the profound political and social shifts of the times. From August 19th-23rd we will enjoy TRYING. Based on a true story about 82 year old Francis Biddle (former Attorney General for FDR) who struggles to write his memoirs until Sarah (a strong willed young woman from the Canadian Prairies) comes to help. This play is hailed by critics all over the world as a triumph of Canadian theatre. Last but not least, Collingwood loves Leisa Way! Join us September 30th – October 3rd for Country Jukebox: The Best of Country Duets, starring Leisa Way, Aaron Soloman and Randall Kempf, in this upbeat musical knockout celebrating all things “country”. Subscriptions, Group Rates, Stay & PLAY and Dine & PLAY packages are available. Performance Location: The Historic Gayety Theatre, 161 Hurontario Street, Collingwood Box Office and Studio Theatre: 65 Simcoe St., Collingwood Call 705-445-2200 or toll free 1-866-382-2200 or visit www.theatrecollingwood.ca Put More PLAY in Your Life!
